It’s going to be a little quiet here for the next few days. Larry is out of town for the week but we did just receive the FM transmitter we’ve been waiting for. The gear is in the bag. We are, essentially, ready to roll. We just need an equipment test and we’re ready to go. As we speak, I’m authoring a test DVD with the feature, trailers and bumpers. Next week we’ll give the whole thing a spin. In the meantime, our very tentative schedule is up. We cherrypicked from a wishlist and ran out of time before we knew it but this summer is going to be a hoot.
Locations are all TBD. Keep this in mind. If you have not yet signed up for the email list, you won’t know where to find us, so please hook us up with your email so we can tell you where we’ll be screening.
That said, here’s a taste:
- Pump Up The Volume
- The Warriors
- Blood Diner
- Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo
Check out the Movie Schedule page to the see the whole list.

It’s amazing to me how quickly this project has come together. A week ago, Larry asked me how much I thought it would cost to do our own guerilla drive-in after we read the Boing Boing article about the Westchester, PA GDI and here we are now, new website, waiting on an FM transmitter and we’re about ready to go. I guess this was meant to be.
One major point that I felt was absolutely necessary to the operation of this GDI was a web presence and a standard Wordpress install just wasn’t going to cut it. Since this would be the hub of the Seacoast’s guerilla drive-in, I felt like it not only had to be functional, which Wordpress is right out of the box, but it had to have a design that was both pleasing to the eye and representative of our concept. Designer, friend and b-movie maniac, Steve Jencks, was gracious enough to lend a hand and volunteer his time to come up with precisely what I was looking for. His composition for this site was so much more than I expected. Thanks so much, Steve.
So here it is, the all new, all different Sub Rosa Drive-In website.

Pardon our appearance. We’re just getting moved in. We will shortly have the details for our Guerilla Drive-In posted and hopefully, in the next week, will be a sanctioned chapter of MobMov.org (the first in New Hampshire). Since today marks the official first day of summer by many people’s calculations and weather of late is perfect for it, the Seacoast is targeted for a series of hit and run movie presentations in locations to be determined at a later date. Our gear requirements are nearly wrapped up as we await our FM transmitter so right now the only lingering item is finding a suitable location to show our movies. Being without a modular movie screen means projecting on large, white surfaces, like the sides of buildings. Your suggestions are appreciated.
We’re also looking for a volunteer designer to help make this site look kick ass. If you would like to volunteer your design chops to make this a slick looking website, please contact us at the email address below. Steve Jencks, righteous graphic designer and fellow cult movie writer has graciously answered my call and is presently working on a comp for the site according to my exceptionally abstract instructions. I have no doubt that the fruits of his labor, against all odds, will exceed my expectations.
For information on upcoming screenings, movie requests or recommendations, or to suggest a location for screening, feel free to contact info [at] subrosadrivein [dot] com or go ahead and use the comments in the articles. We want to hear from you. Your feedback is crucial to the operation of this film society.
We’ll see you at the movies… wherever that may turn out to be.
